All-Campus Announcements
  • Seligman Performing Arts Center is Expanding
    Last Wednesday, Detroit Country Day School broke ground on the Seligman Performing Arts Center expansion project. This expansion will create a state-of-the-art theatre classroom with a focus on growing productions, transformational learning, and student showcases. Proudly named the Nicole and Stephen Eisenberg Family Studio Theatre, the space will enable DCDS to enhance our creative learning environment and prepare our school for the next generation of future leaders. The expected completion date of the project is late Spring 2015. See pictures.


  • Shop Amazon and Donate to DCDS
    DCDS recently registered for the Amazon Smile program. Amazon operates smile.amazon.com that houses the same products as the regular Amazon web site. In order to earn money for DCDS visit the smile website and login or create an Amazon account.  Once you log into your account, you will need to select Detroit Country Day School as your charitable organization under the "Your Account" menu. Use this link to read more about Amazon smile. Almost any purchase you make will return 1% back to DCDS.


  • April Centennial Community Service Month
    To culminate our Centennial Celebration year, the entire DCDS community of students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff are encouraged to join together in providing meaningful service through community projects around the world. We’re dedicating the entire month of April to sharing your experiences and celebrating your service! Please look for more details and an electronic form available in January to submit your family’s community service stories.

Upper and Middle School News
  • All State Honors
    The DCDS varsity men's soccer team enjoyed hard fought wins again powerhouses Livonia Stevenson and Brother Rice and a district championship this season. The Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association (MHSSCA) has named the following players to all-state teams: Nick Barra '15 - defender first team, Cooper Belanger '16 - forward second team, and Griffie Prime '16 - midfield third team.


  • Congratulations to the following:
    • Sarah Carroll '15 has been named to the first team of the Michigan High School Field Hockey Association (MHSFHA) Division II all-state field hockey.
    • Kameron Johnson '17 was just named first alternate for the all-state jazz band. There is only one position available, and there were 250 piano players from across the state auditioning. Kameron finished ahead of 248 pianists auditioning for the one spot.
    • Julia Shen '19 won first place in the Reserve Section at Michigan's Women's Chess Championship held on November 23 in Ann Arbor. See picture
    • Michael Upton '20 recently took 3rd place at the VI Annual Grand Rapids Youth Fencing tournament. Michael has been fencing for four years and won the medal in the Y12 Mixed Foil event. Michael fences at the Renaissance Fencing Club in Troy and is coached by Anatolie Senic. See picture.

Junior and Lower School News
  • L/S Gives Thanks in a Variety of Ways
    Today at the Lower School many of the classrooms were busy celebrating Thanksgiving with a Pow Wow, lesson plans on Native Americans, a play about the Pilgrims and the Native Americans, and feasts. Although we weren't able to capture every moment, here is a short slide show of a few moments at the Maple Road Campus this morning.


  • Grade 5 Students Create Holiday Cards for Harms Elementary
    The Grade 5 students shared their Thanksgiving and Holiday wishes by making cards for children at Harms Elementary school in Detroit. Our students will also continue to be pen pals. The Upper School has had a long standing relationship with Harms Elementary and were happy to have the Junior School coordinate a giving and character program with the school.

  • M/S History Teachers Share Classroom Insights at Conference
    November 22, 2014, four DCDS Middle School teachers - Kevin DuRoss, Jade Moeller, Jonathan Roach, and Jennifer Caylen - presented at the National Council for the Social Studies conference in Boston, MA. These presentations were selected among thousands of other proposals submitted from Social Studies teachers from around the country. Read more.
